| Lukashenko abolishes licensing of 16 activities Jan 1, 2011 |

Belarus will abolish licensing of 16 activities starting January 1, 2011, of them seven include 59 types of work/services, and licensing of 60 types of work/services in 13 other groups of activities, which will remain licensed, in accordance with presidential ordinance #450 dated September 1, the press service of the president reports.
The document abolishes licensing of retail activities, except for retail sale of alcohol and tobacco goods. Licenses for retailing alcohol and tobacco goods will be issued by municipal and district administrations for ten years.
Design and construction of the first and second criticality rate, as well as engineering surveys for such projects will not require licenses, and neither will procurement and processing of wood.
Licenses will not apply to audit, travel business, lottery business and customs matters. Turnaround managers will also be entitled to work without licenses.
Other activities not requiring licenses from January 1, 2011 are processing and canning of fish and seafood, hunting and fishing business, geodesy and map-making, activities in the sphere of aviation and distribution of legal information.
Furthermore, employment of Belarusians abroad and collection and distribution of information about individuals for dating purposes [including in the Internet] will be combined into one type of activity.
Legal entities and individuals are entitled not to extend their licenses for activities that will not require licenses and will work in accordance with temporary licenses valid until January 1, 2010.
The press service expects the move to reduce the administrative load on businesses.
