Belarus’ population was at 9,467,700 people as of August 1, 2010, a decline by 12,500 from January 2010, the National Statistics Committee said in a report.
In January-July 2010, 62,517 babies were born in Belarus, a decline by 1,215 from in January-July 2009, and 80,270 people died, down by 548 year-on-year.
Natural population loss was at 17,753 in January-July 2010, up from 15,990 in January-July 2009.
Birth rate decreased to 11.4 per 1,000 in January-July 2010, same as in January-July 2009. Death rate fell to 14.6 per 1,000 from 14.5. Death rate among children under one year of age was at 4 per 1,000, down from 4.5.
According to the committee, net migration inflow in the period amounted to 5,307 people.
The number of registered marriages decreased 0.8% in January-July 2010 to 39,616 and the number of divorces went up 0.6% to 19,756. There were 499 divorces per 1,000 marriages in January-July 2010, compared with 492 in January-July 2010.
