Housing output in 2011-12 projected at 48 mln sq m, up 80%
Housing output in Belarus is expected to increase 80% in 2011-2015 from the level reached in 2006-2010 to 48 million square meters, Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky said during a meeting with representatives of Belarusian trade unions.
“Residential construction remains our top priority. We completed 26.7 million square meters of housing in 2006-2010, and we plan to increase this figure by 80% to 48 million square meters,” Sidorsky said.
In 2010, housing output is expected at 6.9-7 million square meters, in 2011, 9.1 million square meters, and in 2010, 10 million square meters of housing will be completed.
“The government has suggested that interest rates on home loans should be cut for all settlements with less than 50,000 dwellers, whereas now preferential rates apply to settlements with less than 20,000 dwellers. In small towns, home loans will be extended at an annual rate of 1%. We expect outflows of workforce from larger towns and cities to smaller towns,” the premier said.
